Cost calculation and international transport process
In term of present world of business, transport plays a vital role since it very much affects business growth in term of speed and cost. Importers and exporters should realize the way how to transport at a very competitive cost with a brief scope as follow:
Modes of international transport:
1. Sea transport: suitable for big volume cargo which does not require quick transit time with a minimum charges of 1 CBM (Width x Length x Height). It is also divided into FCL (Full Container Load) and LCL (Less than container load) depend on demanded volume for transport
Cost calculation as follow:
CBM = Width x Length x Height (cms) / 1,000,000
Ex. Want to send clothes to U.S.A.,Carton Size : 50x60x50 cms. 5 Cartons
CBM = 50x60x50 cms. /1,000,000 x 5 cartons = 0.75
***Cost is based on min.at 1 CBM ***
2. Air transport: suitable for small volume cargo or require shorter transit time, the cost is mainly based on weight of the shipment
Cost calculation as follow:
Chargeable weight = actual gross weight Vs Volume or dimension weight (Whichever greater)
Volume or dimension weight = width x length x height (cms) / 6,000
Cost is based on chargeable weight for each required destination
Ex. Want to send clothes to U.S.A.,Carton Size : 50x60x50 cms. 1 Carton
Actual weight is 30 kgs
Dimention weight = 50x60x50 cms./6,000 = 25 kgs but actual weight is 30 kgs
*** Chargeable weight (kgs) is 30 kgs ***
3. Rail or truck transport: suitable for neighbouring countries which shares Thailand’s border like Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, China etc.
Service include whole truck chartered, lcl (number of carton or weight of shipment)
Sea and air freight transport could be categorized as follow:
1. Door to door service
Is very much well known for present air freight transport due to its speed and comfortability. It is also the cheapest type comparing the whole process for small volume cargo.
The service includes pick up, packing, export paperwork, customs process at origin and destination country, delivery to receiver
It is not recommended for sea freight transport for this type due to it is much higher cost 2. Door to port service
Is suitable for big volume air freight transport but require shorter transit time, and sea freight transport of greater volume at very low cost with longer transit time.
Importer must responsible for customs process, going through customs, duty payment and pick up arrangement at the port.
Destination charges is somewhat higher than in Thailand
Presently, due to its rapidly aggressive competition, the Biggest 4 courier companies including DHL, Fedex, TNT, UPS serve door to door service, enable customer to know exactly date of delivery. It is being popular in term of convenient, speed, cost effective, trust worthy, reliable with a modern up to date system worldwide. by
